A Degree in International Affairs Prepares You for a Career in Global Affairs

Whether you want to work for the United Nations or launch your career in global business, a degree in international affairs gives you the tools and knowledge to tackle the world’s most pressing issues. Our interdisciplinary major provides a foundation for understanding the political, economic, cultural and environmental processes that shape our interconnected world. And with a choice of thematic and regional concentrations, you can tailor your degree to fit your specific interests and ambitions.

You’ll take courses that integrate political science, economics, history, sociology, journalism and geography to understand how cultures, time periods and systems interact. But you’ll also be exposed to a wide range of ideas and perspectives from across the disciplines, learning to think flexibly across these boundaries.

Through specialized seminars, you’ll gain a deeper appreciation of the interplay of factors that shape our world, including poverty, terrorism, climate change, conflict resolution and diplomacy. You’ll also have the opportunity to apply your interdisciplinary training to a real-world issue of your choosing. You can choose to complete a Capstone Project, write a senior essay or combine these options in a substantive seminar or the global affairs senior essay course GLBL 4500. In either case, you will select a professor to serve as your advisor and secondary reader. Students may take up to four credits of summer or semester study abroad toward the major requirements, subject to DUS approval. Click here for more information.
